How do I back car on ramps?

Hey all, I am getting ready to change the diff fluid on my 98 and am going to buy ramps to get the rear end up on, then jack up the front to level the car out.

My question is, has anyone had any problems backing a manual 5-speed stang up ramps backwards? The only reason I ask is because a few years back I watched my neighbor try this and the freakin things shot underneath the car when he applied gas. I've also seen front wheel drive cars do this when they try to drive them up on ramp.

I am looking at buying Blitz Rhino Ramps from Advance Auto.

Just take it slowly. If your car is low be sure to put a couple 2X4 underneath the front (so you front tires rise up on them as your car tilts) so your front bumper doesn't rub. Also, if the Rhino ramps slide, brace them with something. It's not hard. Just don't gun it.

I wouldnt use ramps.. i would jack your body up.. reason being is when you ramp it your diffs going to be shoved up into the body.. if you jack up the body and let the axles hang, you will be able to work easyer..

I back up ramps all the time. It's how i installed the cat-backs on both my cars and on friends cars as well as change dif fluid.


Just don't give too much gas, slip the clutch and use the e-brake to control your roll

I have two 3 ton jacks with four jack stands (and the Rhino ramps) I would go with slowly jacking the car with the floor jacks (two), slowly inch up and settle on the jack stands. That's what I do now for "high up" work. Tonight my car was on the Rhinos to replace an IC hose. It's so far up it's no wonder I had to replace it.

i have eibach pros and mach 1 chin and the chin touches the ramps when i throw them up front. its too low for a jack up front. when the front is up i jack the rear by the pumpkin but i have to have the jack handle right behind the back tire so i have room to go up and down. a real PITB.

I wouldn't drive up onto ramps backwards to change my diff fluid for the simple fact that all the fluid will be puddled near the pinion gear since the car will be on an angle....

For future reference....if I need my car to be jacked up as high as possible (if for some reason I can't use my lift at work) i'll drive up onto ramps, and have someone hold the brake while I put a floor jack underneath the rear, jack it up as high as possible and throw some jackstands underneath the axle, works pretty good as long as someone is holding the brake, if not the car may roll off the ramps.

Rhino ramps have "lips" that you won't roll off. Block your opposing wheels.

Thats how i did mine, i just managed to get all the fluid out anyway by using a rag and my hand. The angle is not that severe.

Jack the car up and let it back down on your ramps, then drive down them when your done.

Throw a couple 2X4s or 2X8s in front of the ramps and you should clear okay. That's what I have to do. When I use my big hydrolic jacks I have to use a smaller one to bring the car up a little to get the bigger ones underneath.
