You cannot use a reverse rotation pump on a std rot. timing cover, the coolant ports are reversed as well. Ford switched to an aluminum std rotation w/p in 88 on the Crown Vics. I'm running one on my 331 in my Ranger, that also uses the crown Vic setup. The aluminum pump looks like the Stang/pickup truck pump from the front, but when you look at both from the backside, you'll see the reversed ports. And the Crown Vic setup doesn't stick out farther than the 79-93 Stang setup. The extra pulley groove on the vic can be used for extra accessories other than the A/C or smog pump, like maybe an extra alternator for that killer sound system.
