Hi,

I'm a new classic mustang owner and ex-pat texan living in the UK. I just bought a 1970 5.5L mustang convertible and am curious if I can locate the original factory specifications as to color, wheels, tires, etc. Any idea if this information is available online anywhere with a VIN lookup?

Also, if you only have a VIN and no door tags (like me), you can also get a Marti Report and get the full stats on your vehicle.

Unless someone removed it, there's a build sheet hidden somewhere in the car. Sometimes it's up inside the dash in the wiring harness. Sometimes inside one of the doors.

I've heard of data tags that were stuck somewhere on the front of the car to alert assembly workers what to put on the particular vehicle. Is there any truth to that?

There's a data tag attached to the radiator support behind the battery. Don't know if that's what you mean though.

I think we're talking about the same thing...does it have the sort of information I listed? I haven't actually found/looked at mine.

The build sheet and the data tag are two different things. The build sheet is just that, a piece of paper with the car's components listed. The data tag is a thin metal tag riveted to the radiator core support.
