Actually I think bringing that back is a great idea! If taking that away was supposed to add some validity to what posts counts meant, then it failed anyway, and bringing it back might keep some of the tech posts from getting bogged down. What do you think Timeless?

I have my opinions on how it should be handled. But, it's not my site to change without consent. The subject has been discussed at length many times (even since I've been on board) and does not seem likely to change. Not saying it won't ever change, just stating an impartial and unbiased fact.

Now, my personal opinion (not necessarily the view of the site founder) is that post count should accrue when any post is made, anytime, anywhere. However, the true feature to look for in credibility is a user reputation.

Honestly, post count doesn't mean much to me, as I can change mine or any user's to 0 or 12 million with a few taps on the keyboard. I watch and observe to formulate user opinion and I'm usually spot-on whenever I make a judgment call.

Again, this is just MY opinion, not necessarily one held by those responsible for the creation of this fantastic site.

^ Agreed...watch how people act and what type of posts they make when judging if you should take advice from them.

I used to think "hey he has a high post count, so he must be smart" ....um, well I found out REAL quick, that that wasnt always true LOL.

Staff and Admin forums count as well, but most of you needn't worry about those.

When do I get access to the admin forums??? is it only admins in that forum or are supermods welcome too?

My opinion on posts are as follows.

Non Tech Post counts will add to the urge for people to post responses like: "Neat! "

Disabling non tech post counts in reality doesn't slow down the "non technical" talk that makes up most of the posting on this entire forum, because people still post "Neat! "

For these two reasons I think that post counts altogether should be deleted, as they don't clue anyone in to how legit someone is. Ligitimacy is EARNED through thoughtful posting from the likes of jrichker, tmoss, Michael Yount, etc...

You have to be on the forums for a while to figure out who people are, and even then a post count doesn't mean much when as Tim said earlier he can modify them. Case in point Defleshed hasn't nearly as many posts as his count says.

I wouldn't mind if my post count were deleted altogether and set as blank, or some odd symbol like Ø

Eliminating the post count field altogether is an option that has been discussed.

And as for those who contribute much to the forums, I do my best to serve them and make their stay a good one. Ask jrichker and hissin50, as well as other great contributors on this site.

Well, I have to say thanks for this whole thread. I have been wondering what the heck tho point of post counts was along, and didn't care what mine were. I do have to say, though, that as I alway state in my posts..I know nothing and am trying to learn... I am kind wanting to avoid posting in tech now.. cause I don't want my post count to look like I know something when I actually don't know that much...

I agree with you about a lot of your points. The post counts do not add anything to this forum, they don't even clue you in on the good tech posters. If you go to a tech forum on this site in a few days of posting you will be able to tell who the heavy hitters are in tech. Plus I have seen a lot of people posting in tech just to bump post counts, if we loose the post counts then that will probally stop.

exactly, i dont post much over here anymore cause well, a few years ago it was all about bumping post counts, and threads got stupid. it got to a point where there was no tech it was just a bunch of nonsense. ive been visiting the site a lot more now, but i still dont post alot. i believe that post counts should be turned off, it serves no purpose.
