First off, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Just got a great deal on an Explorer Center Console. I have the interior paint I need to recolor the main body and other related vinyl parts; however, I have no experience recoloring fabric items (the armrest).

Can anyone tell me how to dye/recolor velvet/valour or other similar material?

Thanks for any feedback!

Mark

Thanks for the links. The product description seems to "imply" the product is for vinyl ( dash, door panels, arm rest pad, etc.). I'll contact them tomorrow to clarify if it's also a fabric paint.

Take care,

Mark

I didn't even notice that it was LMRs label. I've used the VHT which is both, vinyl and upholstery dye.

I can't be certain, but I think that this LMR stuff is made by VHT for them in these colors. Ask them that question when you hit them up and let us know back!

Rit dye for fabric. Do yourself a favor and buy some scrap fabric from a store and try it first. It's a little trial and error to get the right texture with enough color. Too much and it gets stiff and hard to move.

Thanks for advice, Mustang5L5. I'll definitely try on scrap material first.

Got a reply from LMR today. Here's what they had to say:

"Hello Mark
Thank you for emailing me with your question. Our paint is not recommended to be used on Fabric, unfortunately. We have had some customer's try it and the paint soaks into the foam and I say it is not a good idea to use it on the fabric. If you have any questions, Please feel free to call or email me directly.

Customer Service Rep"

Over Christmas I did a Google search on vehicle interior/fabric coloring. Downloaded a variety of "how-to" videos and now have a better understanding of what I need to do.
