Just wondering Also, what other mods have a more profound effect on gas? Good, or bad effects.

Thanks in Advance-
Kyle

Well, a K&N is supposed to help your gas mileage and an exhaust setup "should" help as well. I say "should" because most people can't keep their foot out of the gas due to the fact that they love the new sound.

Meh, I don't think bolt-ons affect gas mileage at all. You'd have to adjust the air/fuel ratio to see any difference.

You could argue that mods to the intake for example, will lean out the ratio but the EEC will compensate for that.

I take it your joking. So if I added a SC and kept the same A/F ratio then my mpg's would not change,, hum!!!

bolt-on's don't force extra amounts of air into the engine

i'll agree with 40th on this one. driven the same a full bolt-on gt vs. a bone stock gt will get similar mileage. some will argue the bolt-on will get better mpg on the highway and they could be right

if you think about it bolt-ons don't really do much when you compare them to heads, cams, internals, fi, etc.

adding a few mm to the t/b opening or adding a high flow air filter pales in comparison to swapping aftermarket heads with an aggresive cam(s) and a full performance tune or adding 9psi of boost to an engine

Intake and exhaust are suppose to improve your gas mileage. But like posted earlier, that won't likely happen because you'll be haulin' a$$ every where you go!

the one thing that EVERYBODY missed in this thread is the change in "load" due to any modification. Fuel mileage is directly related to both the a/f ratio and load applied to the engine. If you add an intake or exhaust mod that frees up some restriction, the engine will lean out. The eec will then compensate to maintain the same a/f ratio, BUT the load has changed. The engine will now require less load to do the same work. Mileage should improve. Adding a supercharger will increase the load due to the fact that you have another accessory to turn. These changes may not be enough to notice depending on the mod, but they do have an effect.

breathe through a straw.... took a lot of energy to get one breath in didnt it... now breathe normal.... took a LOT less energy.... thats what happens when you install some sort of intake on your car yes it can pull the same amount of air through the straw but it has to waste MUCH more energy to do so.... so yes as long as you keep your foot out of it you will get better gas mileage.

bottom line is... if make it easier to get the air in and out w/out changing how much fuel is requiered to keep it safe then you WILL get better gas milage...
