How do you jack up the rear of your car?

I been doing it by the pumpkin since i seen my buddy do it that way. Is there another way to do it?

edit: Heres my current method:

1. Drive the front of the car on rhino ramps.
2. Put 2 jack stands at the front portion of the car for extra safety.
3. Get the small floor jack and drag it to the ass end. Place it under the pumpkin than pump away for hours.
4. Keep pumping till the jack runs out of pressure.
5. Place jack stands under the rear of the car @ manual stated positions
6. Unscrew the floor jack alittle so the the back of the car slowly drops onto the jack stands.

Step 3 is the problem it seems i read. I only have 1 jack so i guess i need to buy another so i can do it a better way.

dont jack it up from the diff.. i jack it up from my subframes.. doesnt help much does it??

the stang has camber set from the diff outwards.. if you jack too much on the diff it will bend the crap out of it.. BAD IDEA!.. jack it one side at a time if worse comes to worse...

yea ur not supposed to use the diff to jack the car up...
i remember a few years ago, in my high school auto class... this one idiot tried to jack a car up by the rear sway bar... lol

rear sway bar is a very good idea!.. jack that beoth up till it snaps!.. better yet.. use the gas tank!

soo... it sounds like ur using the jack to lift the car, and hold it up in the air while u work on it..?
this is said to be very dangerous! jacks arent ment to hold the car up for a substantial period of time, thats what jack stands are for!

no, i have suv jack stands i place under the car. I asked how would i jack up the rear of the car.

rhino ramps for the front than jack stands up front. Than i use a jack under the pumpkin than add jack stands at back than i drop the back end of the car on the jack stands and thats it.

i was just wondering whats another way of jacking the ass up.

lol its funny that u mention that, because well first off, my auto teacher was awesome i had him for two years and learned a bunch in that class. thankfully he had all of us working on different so that 2/3 of the class could learn simple **** like... checking the oil...
well one of the first days of class he wanted everyone to be able to jack a car up safely, well he gets up one of the auto shops fox body 5.0's and puts it all the way up in the air... and get everyone huddle kinda on the sides and under the car.. he talks about how important being carefull is when jacking up a car etc..
he then unscrews off one of the little support rests from one of the jacks and holds it up to the oil pan of the 5.0... the oil pan has the exact 4 marks of the jack rest pushed up into the oil pan... so the oil pan and the jack rest aligned perfectly!! he just stood their with the biggest pissed off face and it was absolutly helarious...
ionno.. lol maybe u had to be their..

ahh ic... then yea just jack up one side by either the pinch panel at an appropriate point... or by the sub frame, prop it up with a jack stand, and then repeat on the other side!

NOTE: Many people will use a floor jack under the differential to lift the entire back of the car up at once, even though the manuals expressly says NOT to do this. People of have done it this way for years with no ill effects. But here is the reason why they tell you not to.

The rear axle is not perfectly straight. To allow the rear end to track correctly, there is about a 1 degree negative camber built into the rear axle. Basically what that means is that instead of axle being parallel with the ground, the differential is a little lower than the center line and the the top of the wheels tilt slightly towards the vehicle.If you lift the vehicle from the differential, you are putting stress on both left and right axle housings where they meet the differential, at the same time. They were not designed to perform in this manner. Although you may not break anything, you do not want to stress this area or slightly tweak it and remove or reduce this 1 degree negative camber.

NOTE: If you use the wide flat area of the front of the Kframe as a jacking point, be careful. If the jacking plate of your jack is not flat then you run the risk of denting this area. Doubtful it will cause any complications, but you will hate your self for it later.

Back when I was in auto tech in high school one of my classmates decided to change a tire for someone. Well when jacking the car up he put the jack under the floor board. In the meantime, there he was jacking and jacking but the car was barely visibley higher. Until someone noticed him outside and took a look. They were like you F****** idiot! Don't put the jack under the floor board. Turns out the floor had to be banged out. Not good We picked on him all year for that one

jacking the rear up is the easiest. i use that little "dogbone" plate that sits infront of the diff. my jack and bar is just long enough to reach it perfectly.

Since moving from the city to the country, i've learned a lot from the "country folk". I just bring out all the plywood I use for my hurricane shutters, stack em up nice and even to create a ramp, and walla, raises my car nice and safe. Just make sure to use the E-brake. I feel a lot safer now when I do my oil changes.

Two things-

a) sounds like you need a better floor jack. Get one that has the "1 pump to contact", they are really nice. Craftsman makes an all aluminum racing jack that has a really low profile to it. Im looking at getting it so I dont have to drive up on boards to put a jack under my front end.

That's funny! My brother did the same thing on HIS car ... he had the front jacked up and was in a hurry to jack the rear ... long story short, I was watching the floor because we were installing a roll cage and all of a sudden I start seeing the floor rise up! I'm like wtf, stop you dumbass!! We still laugh about that...
