just like the title says, how do you know if your clutch is going out? im getting a random power surge feeling with driving around 2k rpms, in almost all 5 gears. but the rpms look like they are not bouncing around.

so how do you know if your clutch is going? or starting to go?

after it starts to go down hill how much mileage or time do you have left before your dead in the water?

thanks SN

you mean you think its slipping? the rpm's would move if it was slipping.

test its gripping power by finding a hill, go into fourth gear or so at about 1500ish rpm's, just above being bogged down. then get on the throttle pretty good. it will either slip or grab.

ive always tested clutches that way

That is very bad for your transmission, Twista.

Try it the way the other guys have said.
ya i know in away (didnt know how bad it was for the car =( ) sorry about that. I was told to do this to test if the clutch is going bad. However, i was also told you shouldnt try it over and over as a warning.

edit: here it goes:

To test your clutch, put the car the highest gear, with the clutch on the floor, make the engine sound as if it's doing about 15mph in 1st, and dump the clutch. The engine should stall instantly. If it takes more than 1/2 a sec, think about a new clutch. BTW, don't do this test too often.
