How do you know when clutch fan is broke?

I noticed that my car has been getting hotter than usually latley even tho its 30* outside. It goes to about halfway on the stock temp gauge (not sure what that is in degrees.) It has a brandnew radiator and coolent. I had a small coolent like right in the middle front of the motor a while back right when it started to get hotter so i figured it was the water pump but now the leak stopped and i was wondering if it could be the clutch fan...how can i test it to see if its busted? how exactly does it work? thanks

If the car runs cool when in motion but tends to heat up when standing still, it is most likley a fan problem.

See if there is oil or residue around the clutch of the fan, if there is the fluid leaked out.

The clutch fan should get thighter as it gets warmer, it should spin but have good resistance.

What about your T-stat, it could be stuck closed or not completly opening.

If it gets below freezing sometimes the thermostats will freeze closed and not open. Happens to mine all the time

by chance does it run warm when you first start it up and eventually run the right temp? if so get a enw thermostat because it could be sticking. just a suggestion. i don't have the stock clutch fan on mine anymore so i can't help ya there.

try to go spin teh fan when teh car is off...if no go, then its shot. at least thats show mine was...and it leaked this gooey clear crap

with the car off, try to spin the fan. a good clutch fan should not spin more then one complete rotation. if it spins around a couple of times, then the clutch is worn out.
