how do you mold on fiberglass?

I have never done any fiberglass work like this and did a search but couldn't find anything. I bought the eleanore side scoops for my 68 and don't know what the best way to put them on is. Do I just use body filler, or do I use a certain type of fiberglass? What is the best way to go about it?

I'd use some sort of 2 part epoxy I think. Someone on here did the exact same thing, but I don't know if they've put any miles on the car yet.

I would use a automotive structural adhesive to actually attach the pieces to the car. Then I would use filler to blend them into the body. Look through the SN65 thread or PM Bob directly.

attach the scoops with stainless screws or the automotive adhesive. bondo sells a gallon of fiberglass resin for around $30 and they sell a square yard of glass mat for about 6. I would use fiberglass if you plan to do a lot of molding and then grind it down so it is flat; then fill it with body filler to smooth out the glass. paint it and you are set

That is exactly what a friend in highschool did when he put the Eleanor body kit on his 68 coupe. And what I plan on doing with my Shelby fiberglass. Also you still want those brakes, pm me or send anIM to Muerda La Bala, if you still want them.

Go to a paint and body shop and ask for kitty snot. yes thats the jargon. Its a fiberglass infused resien used to bod fiberglass to other materials. It also works good for filling holes in fiberglass. The stuff I got looks like a big toothpast tube with fibered paste.

It worked great when I molded the braskets into my fan shroud, and it was recommended by a boat maker. beware stuff sets fast.

Use a bonding agent!

Make sure and use a bonding agent that is designed for "fiberglass" to "metal". I am using 3M 8115 for the panel to metal, and 5885 for Fiberglass to Fiberglass from R&E Supply.

Do NOT use body filler, fiberglass, bondo, etc. It WILL crack. Metal and fiberglass expand at a different rate. Use the epoxy, grind off any paint down to metal, trim the fiberglass to shape, and glue it on. Only way to go.

This stuff is not cheap, but this is one area that cheap may get you in to trouble. This is the cheapest I could find it. The applicator gun was half the price of most others I found, also.
