Unhook the neg. battery cable and turn on the headlights to drain the residual power. Let it sit a few minutes then hook it back up.

Why would you want to reset the computer anyway? Just wondering.

you remove the Negative cable. If you remove the positive only the eec still will hold its keep alive memory so I am told. I just remove the neg cable for 20 mins or more and the eec resets everytime.

the puter has an adaptive strategy. so if you replace parts, dial in sensors, etc, you can clear what it has learned and used in the past, so it can adapt to your new parts (it will eventually, but it can take some time).

Well, from what I have seen, you can disconnect the positive (or negative, doesn't matter) cable for a couple seconds. Hook it back up and the codes are cleared.

5.0Droptop, it doesn't matter which cable you disconnect. Either one will break the circuit and will kill the 12V source to the computer, clearing the KAM. The KAM is cleared as soon as the 12V source is cut off.

"how do you rest a computer?"

Take the computer to a nice warm bed; place another really hot computer next to it; let them frantically download and re-boot (several times if necessary) until they drift off to sleep. After a few hours of that blissful 'rest', your computer will be well rested and ready to go. (Be sure you provide your computer with 'virus' protection before it engages in downloading activities with computers you don't know.)
