I have an automatic. When I run in first gear and go over 5000 rpms (approximately), the car cuts out. Is this the rev limiter or do I have other problems?
stock rev limiter should be 6250 rpms I think and diablo you have should be able to adjust it .... if its just first gear there is another problem ....IMO

It happens in every gear when I shift manually. I read elsewhere that the fuel pump actually shuts down when the engine is revved beyond the set limit. I am not sure what the factory setting is, but I will use my Predator to raise it a little.
Not sure how Ford's limiter works, but I'm guessing....
GM's OBDII and III cut out the spark to every other cyl. when rpm's reached the limit. I'm not an ASE Certified tech, but thats the way I understood the rev-limiter to work. I would assume that Ford's and other manufacturers would be similar. Maybe you're motor is revving faster than the factory tach can keep up with and register on the dash by the time its on the limiter?
I think most factory tachs can't accurately keep up at WOT, but I didn't want anyone to come back at me and be like "What? You're a moron! The tach is always right."
