I've been cruising along with my H/C/I swap. I put my heads on yesterday. Today I threw in the lifters, pushrods and finished up with the roller rockers. I proudly take a few pics of my work. Then it finally hits me like a ton of bricks.

The heads are on backwards!!

I thought 5.0/5.8 heads were not side specific. How are they backwards?

I was also under the impression that the heads were non-side specific..

maybe aftermarket heads only have the bracket mounts on a certain side

either way.. not really tech

5.0/5.8 heads are not side specific. Now dont go pullin those heads off now because you'll ruin the head gaskets for no reason.

I believe that with some heads they only have the exhaust gas tube holes on one end? Its been a while since Ive seen a pair of smog heads so not 100% on that.

I would think that if smog ready they will have ports on both sides and you plug the sides that you don't use.

Well you could always get another set of the smog plugs and just screw them in and go. Unless you are smogged, then you should be able to remove them from one end and replace them in the other end(hopefully).

I did notice the air holes and thought it was going to be a big deal. I don't know why I got so confused. I guess I will be okay.
Thanks for bringing me to my senses.

There be only one way to put on heads laddie. One set of plugs will point forward, one will point backward. If you are smogless, don't worry.
