How good is rockford 1001BD amp?

I'm really thinking of getting this amp for its tremendous power, anyone have any experience with one? I'm talking about the 2003 model that puts out 1000watts rms at 2ohms not the 04 model that puts it out at 1ohm. Its class d retails for 699 and has subsonic filter, remote bass control etc. If its all true, this amp will be perfect for my kicker.......anyone?

If you pay that much for it, you got ripped. You can get MUCH more powerful and reliable amps than the '03 RF's for a LOT lower price. Check on the Hifonics Brutus series, or the Kicker KX1200.1 or something of that nature. I'm not saying the RF is a bad amp, just way overpriced for the quality. The new (2004) models are quite impressive with a new design/engineering team, and a BOATLOAD of output.

i said "retails" but nope i didnt pay anything near that for it. dont you just love ebay. 350 shipped to my door! stores like crutchfield and sounddomain.com always sell at retail while MOST ebay sellers buy in bulk and sell much cheaper. i always go the ebay route.

OK, at 350, not too bad. I've heard reliability horror stories, but take that with a grain of salt. Either way, you'll have a good chunk of wattage.

i wanted a fosgate amp but i got two kenwood's they should hit fairly hard and for under 400 for the pair, let me tell you you wont beat that deal

Honestly, from all my friends that used to buy fosgate amps, I haven't ehard one negative thing about them.

well the company i am buying the amp from gives it 2 year warranty so i'm not worried really. if it breaks, i'll send it back!

I'm not much into the car audio scene like I used to be but I use to stay on CarSound.com forums 24/7 when I got my truck and one of the best amps for the cheapest price that everyone recommended was a JBL BP1200.1 amp. 1200 watts rms @ 2 ohms and stable down to 1 ohm. The ONLY downside about it was it had no subsonic filter which can be easily and cheaply had. I finally bough one for myself and put it on a 15" Kicker Solobaric L7 wired to 2 ohms and it was awesome. Might want to look into them. They run around 270-300.

Reliability issues with the 1001bd? Huh? Want to see how reliable RF bd amps are? Go to www.termpro.com and look up the winningest amplifiers in db Drag Racing's history . . . you'll find the 1500bd at the top of the heap. Everyone who is anyone uses them -- even Pioneer. Kicker? JBL? Seriously? Pull out your Digital Volt Meter (a GOOD one, like a Fluke 87 with a min / max setting that you can lock onto peak or minimum readings), put it in the DC Volts scale and put the probes on the speaker outputs and crank it up. Both of these amps have measurable DC voltage present, ESPECIALLY the JBL 1200.1.

It takes power to make power -- the 1001bd makes about 1100 Watts RMS. You'll need the ability to supply it in excess of 100 amperes of current to do this. As long as you're vehicle's charging system is up to the task, this amp should last for years.

That's exactly why I said "take it with a grain of salt". The guys at TermPro know what they're doing. They'll keep voltage high and current available for the amp. Your average Joe Blow who buys This "phat pounding ****zle" from Best Buy or HHGregg doesn't know jack, and probably tried to run 3 of them off the stock charging system in a Civic or Neon. Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing if the bad ones I heard about were from competitors or idiots.

That being said, if it wren't for the last few years' aesthetics of the Fosgates, I'd probably still be running them. I have 4 Puch 200 DSM's, 2 Punch 100 DSM's, 2 Punch 60 DSM's, 3 4080's, 1 4020, and 2 500M's; all with the black "gas grill burner" styled heatsinks. You'd have to pry them from my cold dead fingers. They'll be going in my new Navigator next year along with a full RF Symmetry system, and with speakers I have yet to decide on.

Retro Punch fan huh? Have you played with the 2004 RF amps yet? The T5002 makes over a thousand watts at 2 ohms in mono. That'll get you to retire the DSMs . . . let alone a single powerful multi channel like the T15004 -- makes over 2500 Watts between the four channels. That's like twice what the old Power 1000 MOSFET made! These are RMS ratings at less than 1% THD.

Yes, I've played with a few- but I STILL won't retire my old ones (I also have a 45, 75, 2 150's and, get this, an original Power 1000). The '04's are kicking some ass, though. If I have a need for more amps, I'll check into them. They are a bit large, if you've noticed.
