How long do your tires generally last you?

I'm asking this because I've got 14 000 on my present tires and the fronts need to be replaced. I rotate them about every 5000 miles, keep pressure at 30psi, did an alignment about 15000 miles ago (steering wheel is still pretty straight) and don't to virtually any burnouts

The ones on the front have been on the front for about 9K of the 14K and are balding on the outside edges. I've always noticed that this is where my tires always start to go out first. When I look at other Mustangs I notice the same balding pattern -- outside tread first. Is this inherent to our cars? The rears still look good and I can probably squeeze them out to 20K.

BTW, I've got 255/40/17 Kuhmo Ecsta 711's. Not the best tires but they were a package deal with my rims. Nonetheless I go thru tires like socks. Going to try some 275/40 BFGoodrich, Goodyears or Nitto's next time. Never had the benefit of a really good performance tire.

Maybe it's because they should be at 35psi, which means at 30psi the outside wears out faster than the rest of the tire. :nice:

PS, i hate my Kumhos too and the outside has worn out alot too. I didnt have them by choice either, they came with the car

my stock goodyears went about 20k, then my nitto's would be good for about the same...but i hated them. My Goodyear F1's have been on since last spring but only have @1k on them so check back in a few years to see how they wear.

Stock goodyears went 33K on the front NO ROTATION! lol. And they had plenty of tread, but the inside tread was getting a little bumpy and the streering wheel was vibration. Got about 24K on the rear 285 Kumho esctas. They are thin in the inside, and have plenty on the outside...30PSI. My car lights the tires up easy, and i often nail it. (1-2nd burn...every day just about lol)

if your tire wear rating is below 220 firgure it to wear quickly. toe it out a litttle will help. and add camber for a little more. but if you get "A" traction treadwear 180 tires they won't last. i use different sizes on front and rear, so no rotating.

HEY 331, yo dude have you degreed your cams? you can get the extra 8 with them degreed.

My stock tires lasted me 12k miles in the rear, now the GSD3's in the rear are about worn out and I'm just at 16k miles now! :nonono: The stock fronts lasted till 15k miles, though I did have horrible alignment issues. I attribute the crappy wear in the rears to A) bent rear axle causing really bad toe out (replaced with IRS tehe :p) B) Too many burnouts, and C) stupid soft tires grr. When I go ahead and replace my tires I'll switch over to 18x9/18x10 front/rear wheels...

On the issue of wear pattern, mine have always worn on the inside (both front/back) not the outside

I had Kumho on mine. Went about 20k, and I forgot to rotate half the time.

Then, I went off the road because my tires were too slick. I should've changed them sooner! Always go with good tires.

I am currently running Conti touring contact, usually the stock tire for mercedes benz. Not a drag radial mind you, so straight line traction has it's limits, but great rain traction and cornering. up to 40k on them and still pretty new looking.....even with the SEVERAL burn-outs

Sure didnt. We wanted to avoid tearing the front of the motor down. Good idea though...that $600 intake and an aluminum DS should do the trick :D
