Well first, you find out how much you want the tips to come out so you insert them over the existing tip and make them with a marker or something. Then cut the existing tips where marked at. Place the new ones in place and align them up,down, sideways, whatever. Tack weld one side then opposite side of tip then make sure it's still aligned b/c when welding it tends to pull when it cools down. When aligned, start welding between the tacks of welding b/c it you start at a tack, sometimes it will melt it and throw off your alignment of object. I hope this helps, I've never welded exhaust tips except turndowns but if I did I would do it as mention above and I know this b/c my dad and I run a welding business. Oh yea, when you tack weld the tips, also tack weld the hangers too. It shouldn't take long if he is a good welder and has a helper, I say a max of 30 minutes. One more thing, BE CAREFUL AROUND THE GAS TANK!! Cut some pieces of cardboard to shield the gas tank from sparks, play it safe. Hope this answers your question .

My advice is go to a muffler shop and have them make two slip joints for you. Then weld the tips on to the slip joints, cut the pipes on your car and clamp the new tips on.

I did this to put origional '66 GT trumpets on a '66 with aftermarket exhaust and it is much easier than trying to weld under a car. It's one of the few GT's that I have ever seen with the trumpets actually centered in the cutouts.

The shop had a neat hydraulic tool that they used to expand the tube for the slip joint. It gave me a really tight connection that was easy to secure with exhaust clamps.
