i would reccomend have it replaced at 75-100k because a new belt is cheaper than bent valves.......

I did-not know the 2.3 would bend valves with a broken timming belt

Mine broke and no valves were bent...I suppose I got lucky, though I even cranked it over and over after the belt was snapped before we figured out what the problem was.

the 2.3 is a non-interference engine. Meaning you won't bend any valves if the belt breaks. On my 93 that I am about to pull the engine from (not because anything is wrong, but because I am doing a turbo swap) has ~146k miles and the belt has never been touched.

I was once told that if an aftermarket cam with higher lift and a bigger valve setup will do damage if the belt broke but the stock setup is worry free.

Good info!

Kind of what I figured since we cranked the engine over and over with a broken belt and nothing bad happened.

My Uncle has worked at a ford garage in the 80s to mid 90s and he said they got them most commonly from 110k to 125k with busted timing belts, most he saw was 151k, and that was an older ladys car.

I was thinking that as I read down the posts. Its probably opne of the best things Ford could have done on a belt driven valvetrain engine. My friend has a '92 Plymouth Laser TSi(Eclipse GSX) that he got with bent valves. It has something like 7.8:1 compression and huge dishes in the pistons, but is still an interference engine.

I haven't checked the belt on the SVO. For all I know the engine either has an original 117k or 217k.
