I will never make gobs of power to the wheels but I do plan to run high 12's (currently at 13.06@107.9). I would like to know how long the stock setup can handle 1.8 60' times on drag radials. Is a 31 spline setup worth the money on a high 12 second car?

11.70'S-120 + MPH Bone stock suspension, Axles, Diff. 3.73 gears...no rear girdle either. Probably have 100 11.xx passes and 200 12-13 sec passes on drag radials with the 60 ft in the 1.7-2.0 range. suspensions fine, the stock t-5 doesnt like it too much though...its in my backyard leaking oil

yeah i went low 12's all day long on my stock tranny, differencial and axels.. What helped me was i was running 8" slicks... Now when i hit it will nitrous it lasted awhile at 11.7's but eventually i snapped an axle. And with the supper charger it caused the tranny to start wining at low 11's/ high 10's. It pitted the gears on the mainshaft and countershaft.

Still on stock differencial now though... We will see how long it will last next year when i get my ysi-trimmed 427 in... We will also see how long the untouched tko 600 will last. I know a company that took a chroyo treated tko600 into the 8's. Im hoping for low 9's... Well i will up my expectation and say 9's period

I wouldn't replace anything until it breaks. Whats the point?? I have stock clutch, tranny, rear end and I'm putting some slicks on tonight to try to get into the 12's. I'm not tooo worried about breaking things.

Have you never seen how a snapped axle can give you a ......................

up close and personal introduction to ..................... THE WALL

Slicks tonight I see ...... Just be aware that something COULD happen!

Grady is dead on with his reply.

I ran mid-high 12's for a LONG time on drag radials with the stock axles and differential, that's with 1.7 60's in a 3700lb car. I slipped the clutch though and didn't dump which IMO helps a TON as I don't "shock" the driveline and snap stuff. I have since stepped it up to 31 spline stuff because I run on et streets more now and I don't baby it as much as I used to.

Once i get my engine done i'm sticking with street tires untill i save up for the rearend. I really dont think it's worth it to take big chances like that. You break the tranny you just dont move, like grady said you break an axel you could see the wall.

How much confidence would you guys place in something like an aftermarket axle from Moser (with their claims of being stronger) but still a 28 spline count?

I've got a buddy that runs mid-10's @ 130mph with his stock IRS. And numerous friends who run mid/high 12's through the stock IRS.....of course....we're driving T-Birds and Cougars though....not Mustangs.

The question, in my mind, shouldn't be "how many cars are running XYZ?"

The question should be, "how many cars are running into the 12's on stock axles that are on borrowed time?"

The answer is, simply, everyone. Seriously.
