i have an alternator from a 91 5.0 thunderbird. i believe it is a version of the 3g as it has dual internal fans and looks just like a 3g. i bought a regulator for it and the parts computer had it in a 75 85 or 95 amp version. how do i know how many amps it puts out. i don't see any numbers.

I don`t know why they don`t stamp the amp rating on them.
The 3g I got off a 96 Taurus just says Motorcraft.

Take it to a place that has an alternator testing machine. It will give a print out of the alternator output from idle speed up to full load.

When I swapped a smaller pulley on at a local alternator rebuilder, they did a free output test for me.

awsome, mine just says motorcraft also. i put it on today and it works, at idle the stock needle is at or near the first line after the middle of the gauge without the fan or lights. with the fan on, it goes to the middle line and with the light and fan, the needle goes a little under the line. i hope it's just the stock gauge messing with me. i can't get the mallory gauge to work.
