I just bought a new lighning. How many miles do I need to go before I can hammer it? Do I need to change the oil at 500 or 1000 miles? I had a saleswoman and she told me that all that would be in the book, but the service book just says to change the oil every 5000 miles. If it wasn't supercharged I would just put 100 miles on it and get on it, but I don't know if that works to well for a supercharged engine

500 miles and change the oil. As hard as it was, I didn't slam the gas to the floor until this 500 mile oil change was done. Even then, don't dog the crap out of it... but after 8500 miles, my best gas milage was achieved and I consider that the break in point.

I just got a 2003 cobra like 2 months ago. I had the oil changed around 500 miles. I was told that it helps to get the "crap" out of the system. As far as breaking it in....I was told to "drive it like you want to." I've heard that from several people. Break it in however you expect to drive it in the future. I don't always get on it, but I have several times. :)
