well... after the underdrives were put on the car, my lights are dimmin a little bit at idle... a local alt. shop said they can sell me a pulley for 20 bucks that will speed up the alt. 20%.... so how much more do you think this would increase the output at idle??? my amp likes to shut off from such low voltage...

p.a.performance....sells the 130amp alternator you need. Its the only way to have a system and upgraded ignition, electric fan, etc.. and not drop voltage at idle. The pulley will not change the amperage of you alternator.....The faster it spins the more voltage is being thrown out to your accesorries, but the amp draw is making your lights dim. The stock alternator is only 65amps!

yeah but the underdrives slowed down his alt. speed. if he gets the smaller pulley it will spin like stock and hell be back to stock voltage. With underdrives sometimes my truck will have almost dangerously low voltage.

It's just an overdrive pulley.

You put it on to compoensate for the slowing of your accessory belt due to the underdrives

The 3G does not require as much RPM to produce voltage. A 3G is one of those upgrades all car's should have because the stock 2G was not enough even for stock, it was designed with the carbed non-computer car in mind. I would upgrade then see about the pulley.

Alternators are just like motors...they don't necessarily produce power in a linear mode. Your simply producing the same amperage at a lower engine rpm.

The input impedence of the alt winding is your limiting factor. Oh and try and produce too much current and you'll just blow the diodes. You need a 3G alt which is designed to produce (about) 60 amps at 900RPM and well over 100 amps at 3K rpm.

dude; you can put the stock alt pulley back on for now and when you upgrade the alt put the underdrive pulley on that.
i have a 160 amp unit that puts out 75 amps at idle.
you can order one from 4alterstart.com
it sells for 129.00 and its a brand new unit.
