My car has some kind of freeway gears and is a bit of a dog off the line.
My best 1/4 mile pass was 15.512 at 89.31 mph.
How much would swapping to higher ratio gears really help the times? I was thinking of getting 4.10's or maybe 3.73's. Which would be best?
The car has an AOD.

Get 4.10s with the AOD...and it will easily take a few tenths of ur 1/4 time

Sounds about right.

And it's LOWER ratio gears. Numerically higher.

I always forget which way that goes. I see a higher number in front and think higher ratio.

Ive gotta start saving for some. I found a shop that will install them with all new bearings for $325. Is that a good deal?

Average price, now go find some 4.10's, get them installed and get ready to feel a major sotp difference. Plus they will also up the fun factor by quit a good bit. This is how you will feel for the first couple of weeks

Alot!! Especially with stock 2.73 - 3.08 gears. I got some 3.73's for my 85 and 4.10's in my 2000.

Do it, you won't regret it. It's one of the best mods you can do.

I just did mine 2 weeks ago. Very nice mod. It cost me $800 for everything. A little high but it was with a perimium shop that did a great job for me. Don't forget the speedo gear! I noticed a change in MPG from 23 to 21 mostly highway driving. The biggest difference is that my trany doens't shift down all the time cruising at highway speeds. It stays in 4th most of the time and has plenty of pickup.

I have 3.73's in mine. And if I was planning on keeping the AOD, I would definately have gone with 4.10's. The first gear ratio in the AOD is pretty tall. 4.10's would definately be better for an AOD.

i like my 3:55 in my aod, it pulls good(h/c/i helps a little) but i still get like 24-23 mpg on long trips, oh and gears in the most effective mod for the work/money really the best place to start

I had my 3.37s put in for around 1000$ 1 month ago, got scammed but once it's fixed it's a great mod. I was expecting more but it's def. pushing harder... but the MPG takes a load aswell

I bought my 3.55's new at summit (ring and pinion) for $179 but would sell them for $100 if you want. They were on the car very shortly and ran great. My car is a vert, 5 spd and not a daily driver so I went higher on the ratio.

Where do you get the speedo gear?

Also, mine gets nowhere near 21 mpg. 100 miles is a 1/2 tank.

Thanks but I want a lower ratio than 3.55.

I'd go 4.10. It is well worth the investment.

Are Jeg's gears any good or should I go with Ford Racing?

Jeg's are $140 and I can get a set of FR gears locally for $175 (still new).

yo PJB, are you sure its only getting 200 miles a tank? if true then something is wrong. I used to get a least 300 miles a tank when my car was an aod/3.08 combo, and now that its a t5/3.55 combo I still get about 22-23 miles a gallon on the highway.
