i'm looking for a coupe right now (notchback)
Are they really worth the extra money? i mean.. i can't find a cheap roller coupe in good condition, but there are several hatchbacks for cheaper.
ARe notchbacks really that much lighter than hatchbacks to make the extra $ worth it?
Thanks a lot.

IMO i think coupes are overrated. I mean they are nice. But i think they have to be done right to looks good. As opposed to where almost all lx and gts look good. IMO

Lets see. Is this going to be a street/race car or a race car or just a nice looking street car. Does the little extra weight of a LX Hatch bother you that much?

If its a street car, its all an appearance questions to me. Whichever one you like better you should get. If its gonna be a local track car you may want the lighter car, but if its gonna be a NMRA car, they have weight restrictions anyway.

A stock coupe would run the 1/4 a lot faster than 16.8, with any driver. Over-rated my ass. It all depends on what your personal preference is. Personally, i've always like the coupe over the hatch.. they look much sportier. On the other hand, if you wanted to put a Stalker body kit, or the like, on a Mustang - then it would have to be a hatch. The only body kits that look good on coupe's are Dech's and Saleen's.. Depends which direction you want to take.

If you don't particularly prefer either body style over the other, then get a hatch and save the additional cash for mods ....

Besides, those of us that really love the coupes will be able to have a greater selection to pick from.

I love my coupe. This is the cleanest mustang that I have bought yet and I didn't have to pay more for it like people are saying. The looks the car gets are worth getting a coupe for.

i just read 16.8 on foxfan 88's thing - if you ran a 16.8, you must have had 4 flat tires when you raced - was it missing a head? or driveshaft? Somethings definately wrong -

As for Notches and Hatches, I prefer Hatches by looks, but I've seen some MEAN notches - if you get one, get a nice paint job and tinted glass n it will look awesome - my friend bought a 4 cyl and converted it to 8cyl and when it was all said and done, he said it weighed just over 2000 lbs, needless to say, it ran 12.8 with minor bolt ons - (ported stock heads, intake, etc)

I never even mentioned performance of a coupe so where does my car running a 16.8 have to do with anything.

And the reason i think its a 16.8 is
weak and beat to hell motor.
one tire fire rear with stock 2.73
and stretched shift cable, so i cant hold first so it shifts at 4500

I have a motor that i am going to rebuild soon, i am going to put like an e cam in it. remove smog and A/C.

Shift kit in the tranny for now.
rebuilt 3.90 rearend
and i have my shift cable i am putting in today..

with this i hope to be high 14s

A coupe does have some advantages but really the cost benefit of buying a coupe is almost negative unless you are building something pretty wild. Coupes weigh a little less and have a more rigid body. I have had 4 of them and other than the way they look the difference minimal. You could get a HB with a lot of nice stuff for the same price as a ragged coupe. Just my opinion. Don't kill me.....
