My son has a 1994 GT Mustang 5.0 about 30,000 miles on rebuilt engine, headers, cam, automatic, quickshift etc....

Well, he was in a wreck yesterday (He is okay, a few bruises, dislocated thumb and broken hand)

The body shop said his car was not worth fixing. The car is in good shape except for the rear end , from the back seat back is totaled and crushed in, back glass exploded out but car still runs. No damage to tranny or rear end, front end

Any idea what this car would be worth to sell it to another person or junk yard?

Thanks

Buy a clean, straight and rustfree roller and swap all your mechanical parts into it. That's probably the most cost effective way to go.

What was done to the engine? You could probably get at least $1,000 just for the engine if it runs well - more if it has aftermarket heads or intake. Another 1 or 2 hundred for the tranny if it's in good shape. If the interior is in good shape, that'll be worth a couple hundred (especially if it's black or leather). If the rear-end was stock, it won't be worth too much - maybe 100 or so. A couple hundred for the wheels and tires if they're all in good shape, people are always looking for fenders, hoods, windshield...etc. etc.

It adds up... You just have to decide if it's worth the work to take everything apart and mail it out - or if you just want to get rid of it as a whole, 1700's not a bad price - especially if that includes them coming to pick it up.

Maybe in germany, but not America. I can get a used 5.0 engine for $500, and a tranny for $300, not 2-3K.

Just because you can get a used 5.0 for $500 doesn't mean he couldn't sell his recently rebuilt one for $1000. And I said "1 or 2 hundred" for the tranny. I'd be surprised if he could get $300 for an auto tranny unless it had been built. He could easily make $2-3k off the car...why else would a junk yard be willing to give him 1700?
