How much should I pay for an 06 GT?

I am wondering how can I figure out what is a good deal when buying my new 06 GT. I hear people saying they got the car $1500 below MSRP, while others say they got $3000 above MSRP. When I go to the lot what should I look for and how do I know how much they paid for the car and what is the markup on it? Thanks for helping and if there are any other suggestions and/or advice that will help me get the best price without getting jerked around I would love to hear them. :SNSign:

It's not hard. There's about $1,900 in a GT. How much of that do you think is yours? Don't be like some of these guys that spend half their life making a decision or stressing over whether the dealer made a profit on them. A-plan, X-plan, Shmux-plan. Like most, I paid MSRP and was happy to do it. The store made a little, and my salesman made a deserved commission. Buy it and drive it! Welcome to the forum!

Shop around, there are deals being made on GT's now like never before!

In my area, Central - NE Indiana, unless you want a convertable and/or automatic, its hard to locate a manual GT. I spent 2 days looking and trying to deal. The Manual GT Coups are just hard to find. Its most likely different in your area, but I bought mine last Thursday, stickered for 28,100 (and change) got it for $27,000 + tax title and documentation fee. Options were GT Premium, Interior upgrade, side air bags and the extra alarm.

Good luck, if all else fails, talk to your dealer, ask them what kind of deal they can make when you order one and get it on paper. Take it to another dealer and tell them to beat it. Since the boom is deflating on this model, I'm sure you can get a deal rather easily.

ANOTHER Major Marketing error by the Bean Counters ....

Its be said that the total number of manual transmission equipped Mustangs is less than 20%

And there are VERY few MT verts at all!

I got mine for $1400 over MSRP but it was exactly what I was looking for so I bit. They were asking $5000 over! I have also heard the 5 Spd Manual is a pain the buttock to find which is another reason I snagged mine.

The dealer told me that in order to get a 5spd you had to order 5 Windstar's to sell. Who knows. They did however have about 5 Windstars on the lot in front of the show room. Btw, they had 2 Manuals on the lot, one was a Lime Green (grey racing stripes) and my red one. You know the rest.

what does mt stand for?

I dont know how deals are being made in SoCal, but everywhere else Mustangs are WAY too in demand to be able to haggle very much.

my brother just bought a minivan and got the price down 1500 and so I thought I could do the same. Not hardly. Everyone wants a mustang.

try this though instead. ask for something extra ,like remote start. I told the salesman I wanted remote start on my 06 gt vert and he went for it. that was just a couple hundred dollars or less maybe considering the business they do with the accessory shop that put it in. The salespeople will live with that alot quicker than losing money to haggling. They just don't need to haggle. Mustangs are way too hot an item no the marketplace

I'm along the same lines as firefighterchri. I'm dealing right now on a GT, with a trade of an almost new car, looking at $510 a month for 72 months.

Does this sound decent? The car is going for 27.7k at this point, before tax, tag, title.

Opinions help from those who are already enjoying their stangs and have been through this.

Wow, people are still paying over MSRP? In So Cal I could have gotten one at MSRP even when they were the hottest thing. Now that demand has cooled and gas prices are rediculous I would think deals can definately be had.
Don't be afraid to stray from your local area though.

Well my friends brother is a car broker. I'll tell ya if you can do it the way I did you will not want to go back to dealing with salesmen again. He did the haggling for me. He did a search of the NW area here in Portland and found the exact Mustang I wanted. The dealer was asking for $33.1k and he thought they would come down a grand maybe two. After much deliberation I told him I would pass. The next morning he called me back and said he had talked them down to $29.5k and I told him "yeah skippy!!"

I got a loan through a credit union which seems to have better interest rates so I'm getting %5.9 over 84 months ($371 per month) with $4k down. I didn't want to go ver $400 per month.

I wouldn't want to go over 72 months, definitely. Honestly I'm afraid I'll kill the car before then. I'll have to take very good care of it. The way I drive, in 5 years I'll put around 200k miles on it. But I can't afford less than the 6 year payments, so oh well! I think if I took care of it, it might make it.

Who knows, we'll see what happens. I'm going to try to see if I can get them down to $500 even a month. With my trade, that might be a feasible deal. I'd prefer $450 a month, but that just won't happen with the trade, and I really don't want to take the chance of not selling the Mazda6 for months.

Holy crap dude! Would you like to take out a 2nd mortgage for that car? I hope you plan on adding $$ to your payments over the years or you'll be majorly upside down on that loan in no time!

Seriously, right now you should be able to get an '06 for below invoice. You should be negotiating on the holdback amount.

Did the New Stang '05 really jump up like $3,000 to $5,000 ? A couple years back the range, at least during sales, was more like $15k to $17,500 on a V6 and $23K to $25K on the GT. Now I see up to $33K. That's the price on a Cadillac CTS, and base Mercedes. What happened to the price? Add traction control, side air bags, and some other little thing, and you go past $22K now. Add automatic transmission, and/or Pony Pkg, or Calif. Pkg. and they are like $24K or more for a V6. Is the price getting away?

I sell Fords. $500-$1000 below MSRP is about right. Manuals will be discounted less than automatics. There is no way you can get a Mustang for less than invoice. Maybe a Focus or a Fusion, but not a Mustang. Right now, there are no rebates.

My bet is that people will wait to buy one then. Sales will start to slow as Summer approches, and the rebates will be around $2K. Or what about the year end closeouts. That has to be around $3K. I can not believe how the price jumped from a few years back. Even see some GTs in the $33K to $35k range. Hummmm? Cadillac or European car prices there. May be an excellent Stang, but all cars have their limits for pricing. The average Joe's pony is getting a bit pricey.
