this weekend we removed my transmission to install my new one. when we were removing my h-pipe or basically doing anything it was moving the whole transmission around alot.

with minimal effort, you could move it up and down several inches. just wondering if that is normal or it's been screwed up since i got it? it was a stock t-5, stock driveshaft.

im mainly wondering this because, everytime i go over any bump in the road at a speed around 20-30 i can hear something bouncing around under the car. i don't think its possible for the transmission to be doing this and not notice it? it's just like it will fly up and bounce a little or wiggle around just to hear it when i go over bumps, almost like a squeaking. my e-brake cables are ziptied to the sway bar currently from previous owner due to them not reaching with rear disk but i think its too much noise to be distributed from them?

thanks for any input.

Try checking the trans mount. If its all cracked and rotted, it would allow up and down movement of the trans. I would also check your motor mounts too.

everything seems to be fine. my engine mounts are fine, and the transmission mount is fine.

i'm guessing some movement in the transmission is normal? just curious, and im trying to figure out what the hell that noise i hear is.

Hmm, mine is pretty solid IIRC. How are you checking the state of the mounts? The only thing holding the trans/engine to the car are the mounts, so if there is too much play there, the mounts would have to be the culprit IMO, maybe check the tightness of the nuts/bolts?. Come early afternoon all the experts will start chiming in I am sure.

im not an expert, my cousin is helping me with the project. so he looked at everything and said it was fine, so i am going off that. i guess i will have to see if it changes when its back together.

moreless, im just trying to eliminate the movement of this from the sound im hearing. it is the last "bug" im working out from the previous owner.

Check the bolts that holds the tranny to the bellhousing... It sounds stupid but I just found out that I was missing two of them the other day.
