i just recently got a 90lx vert and i took her to the track tonite and ran several 14.0 and 13.99 @ 99 mph , that was on some goodyear 225/60/16s with alot of spin. I was wondering if adding an typhone intaake and a cold air intake and some slicks if i can get it in the 12s or will i need to spray it to get in the 12s.

they wre like 2.2 and i have heads and cams too , i just need to get the intake to have the motor complete and its a 306 not a 302, just didnt get the intake before i started driving it

Oh, then in that case, an intake can only help. lol

The rule of thumb is, every tenth you take off of your 60' times, you drop 2 tenths on the big end. So say you pull a 1.7 60' with slicks (as compared to your 2.2s on street tires) ...you just might squeak into the 12's (if going by your 13.9 run), so it is possible.

Good luck, man.

The biggest bottleneck to flow through a stock engine is the intake manifold - specifically the lower intake. The heads will flow more than the intake - so YES a different intake, or having tmoss port your stock lower intake will make a difference.

And of course traction will make a difference. Will those two changes knock a full second off your time? I doubt it. I suspect it will take other changes - but you'd help us out if you were to post a signature line so we know what's already been done to the car. There are plenty of Stangs that run in the 12's with little more than gears, sticky tires, subframe connectors (really helpful), long tubes/exhaust system and good driving.

The stock air filter set up IS a cold air intake. An aftermarket CAI offers no gain over simply removing the silencer from the inner fender and putting a flat panel K&N filter in the stock box. Also, do you have your timing bumped to 14 degrees btdc?

So which is it? Intake or heads are the worse bottleneck?? I am going to put on a Cobra intake and a 65MM TB on my stockish 87 vert and was wondering if this will do any good! I already have the exhaust flowing nice with JBA shorties and bassani X pipes with dual cats flowing thru stock mufflers. Intake has silencers taken out and a flat K&N. Also on tap is Cobra RR 1.7 and new valve springs. Any thoughts??

What gears are you running in the rear? If you have 3:55 or higher get some slicks and drop the hammer at 4-5000 rpms and you will pick up a 1/2 second at the drags. And don't forget to flat(power) shift!
