how to attach '68 gas filler neck

does it slide into the hole from the outside of the body? it seems logical to me but it doesn't fit through the hole....

Yes, it goes on from the outside, and requires a cork gasket between the filler neck flange and the body.

a trick to keep your gas cap from scratching up the rear tail. use two cork gaskets and it will still seal and keep it just that much away from tearing up your paint.

I used 2 of the gaskets on mine as well. With one the cap would scratch the paint. I wonder if the original one was thicker. I'm kinda surprised they don't make reproduction ones that are rubber. Maybe the cork works better.

I put on an NOS tail panel and I had to slightly open up the hole to get the filler neck through. Getting the connecting hose on was the hard part.
