How to beef up electrical/battery for stereo

Hey everyone,

I wanted to introduce myself and say hello to you all. I've been reading the forum for quite some time and have recently taken the plunge and picked up a nice rangoon red 289 2v coupe.

The previous owner installed an aftermarket alarm and stereo in the car. I've noticed that if i dont start the car every several days the battery drains down and i end up with a dead pony. Has anyone experienced the same thing?

What have you all done to beef up the electricals to handle alarms and stereos? I know these cars weren't made for that much electrical juice but would like to konw i can just jump in, turn the key and go. Without having a battery charger on stand by

what kind of stereo was added to the car? does it have an amp?
if it does have an amp make sure its turning off when you kill the ignition.
also check your battery and alternator.
Im running an aftermarket soundsystem with a pansonic Mp3/Cd player and a high powered amp driving two 12" woofers with none of the problems you describe... i even still have a Generator on my coupe. I dont have an alarm though.
Id try disconnecting the alarm and then check to see if its still draining if not disconeect the stereo too and see what happens

yeah, cheack for a drain taht has to be a pretty big one to kill the battery, or the battery cant handle a slow drain.Might be bad.
