How to change spring perches?

Just got my new roller spring perches from OT and I am anxious to install them. I searched but I only found reviews about them.

For what I see, it seems that the coil spring needs to go out to install them, right? does that involve an alignment after? whats the proper way to do it?

yup, basically it helps to do the LCA, UCA, Shelby drop, Spring replacement, all in one shot. But replacing the spring perches will require:

1. Removal of shocks and springs
2. That spring shock tower cover on both sides
3. and the tires

then you just unbolt the perches and reinstall the springs shocks etc...

you shouldn't need an alignment change after just the SPs

seriously, those OT SPs are amazing.

It's not that hard

Spring perches?

- Raise car, support with jack stands.
- Remove shocks
- Compress spring w/ internal spring compressor
- Remove the two 1/2 nuts on the bottom of old spring perch
- Replace spring perch
- Uncompress spring, reinstall shock
- Do the other side

Shouldn't take more than 30 minutes a side.

I wouldn't take the spring out, it's a wasted step IMO.

heheh, subconscience got the best of me, i swapped out my old springs for the 620's and new insulator pads at the same time when I did this upgrade.

I think if you are taking the spring perch off, you don't have to remove the outer spring shield.

Thanks guys. So the aligment only would be needed if I do the Shelby drop? which makes sense once I am replacing the perches.

Question please?

Not trying to hijack your thread, but one of yall mentioned something about removing the outer shock tower? Is this neccesary? I`m about to do the shelby drop too.

If you want/need to remove the spring then yes. I guess if you used one of those upper type spring compressors you would not need to remove the tower. Either way it's only 6 bolts and not hard to take off.

I had no idea....

I guess I`ll go pull them off, I`m changing springs and everything else too? I got a guy coming over later to cut these old springs ouit with a cutting torch, anyone else think this is a good idea?

BAD IDEA IF STILL LOCATED WITHIN THE PERCH AND TOWER UNDER LOAD!!!!!

I've had my car since 1984, and I've rebuilt the front end at least four times in that period.

I've had the spring shield off exactly once. And it was because I wanted to paint them. Hell, they are off now!

You can absolutely get the spring out without taking them off.
