this intimidates me big time. i've cleaned the motor on my 95 before with no bad after effects (bagged the distrib, coil, alternator, maf, egr, fuse box, few other various electronics). one time i used engine brite degreaser. another time i used simple green. sprayed the cleaner on, let it sit for a while, hosed everything off. got a leaf blower and from a good distance away, blew everything off. fired right up. im scared to death to clean the motor in my 00 GT. i have a fear of getting something wet, like the COPs. what do you guys do to clean yours? have you had any issues afterward? i dont want it all greasy, just nice and clean.

thanks in advance

Soak it down with degreaser and avoid spraying the COP's and wiring directly and you'll be fine. Warm it up ahead of time and leave it running while you're hosing it off, so whatever water does get into those areas dries quickly and doesn't have the chance to work its way into every nook and cranny of the electrical system.

Don't sweat it.

Also don't use high pressure water.

Use a degreaser and a pressure washer and you will be fine. If your engine is really bad go to Autozone or somewhere of that sort and get a soft tip brush and agitate the bad spots. Also after you get done washing if you want you can mist it with Armor All and then get a rag and wipe it down.

I wouldn't. I think the main reason people have drivability issues after washing the engine is because they used high pressure water.

I've washed the engine in my car at least once a year since 2002 (as well as other vehicles) and have never had a problem.

So simple green, and just a hose with no nozzle just allowing the water to come through at its own pressure.

But is there anything you guys cover, like the alt. or anything?

Hot water works best if you have access to it. Nothing cuts the grease like a good steam clean. Anyone who's tried to wash their dishes in cold water, knows what I'm talking about.
