I attempted to flush my power steering fluid today and was unsuccessful. I think I may have a bad power steering pump. Here is what I did...
Jacked up car.
Unplugged the fuel pump relay.
Removedthe coil wire.
Took the return line off of the pump and put it in a drain pan.
Plugged up the return fitting on the pump with a piece of 3/8 hose with a bolt stuck in it.
Had my wife come out to assist...
Removed the cap from the pump and filled pump with ATF
Wife was in the car cranking it in short bursts but the pump would not drain/circulate the ATF. Turned wheel lock to lock and had no action by the pump either.
I have not turned the car on since draining the system, just tried cranking it in short bursts. I pulled the piece of hose off the return fitting and drained the pump.
Is my pump bad? When driving the car prior to this it was at times difficult to steer. I guess that should have been a sign there??? Oops...
What should I buy for a replacement pump, if needed?
