how to get a 95 Cobra in the mid-low 13's

like the title says, I'm most likely getting a 95 Cobra soon and was wondering what the usual mods are to these cars (SN95's) to get them fast. I own a 92 GT right now but i know the computers in teh sn's are different and respond to mods different and what not. just give me a rundown of things that would get me there.

by the way, heres whats done to the car right now:

K&N air filter, New Borla mufflers (installed over winter), BBK progressive rate lowering springs (1 1/2" drop), Kenny Brown Strut Tower brace, KB Sub-frame connectors, KB Lower chasis brace, Tokico illumina 5-way adjustable shocks, Russell stainless steel brake lines, and Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 tires

im not lookin for answers like DR's or slicks (cuz those are obvious answers) im talkin about things to increase horsepower and whatnot.

thanks!

The throttle body is same as the gt at 60mm, The maf is also the same I believe it's a 65mm. However the cobra comp is the same exact computer as the GT as well, the only difference is in the software, The cobra has th j4ji programming which is where most GT owners will make there starting point. Also it comes with #24 injectors. Our cams are milder and the cobra makes up for the lack of aggresion in the cam with the 1.7 roller rockers. I believe the programming of the cobra to be much easier to modify than that of the GT's; and I have owned both.

The TB and MAF are the same as the GT. As previously stated though, it does have 24lb injectors. From what I've seen, the Fox tb swap is good for about 10hp or so, but its up to you if its worth the money. FWIW, when I get an upper/lower I plan on getting a Fox TB swap.

can somebody give me the run down of the stock parts that the 1995 Cobra comes with?

MAF size
injector size
TB size

i have heard the 94-95 GT's should have a computer upgrade to help better respond to mods, does this apply to Cobras?

MAF size - 70mm (same as GT with same calibration of 19lbs)
injector size - 24lb (compensation for 24lbs injectors is done in the ECU)
TB size - 60mm.

There are a lot of opinions on the topic of ECU upgrades. The gains should be seen moreso on a Cobra. Afterall, the Cobra is a GT motor with heads/cam and Intake. I prefer simplicity - plug it in, forget about it and feel the difference. This puts you in the custom chip category but all the Mustang shops I talk to say that it would be a waste of money - even on a Cobra Motor. I don't get it.

A lot of people like the ever popular Tweecer. However, it has a steep learning curve. Also, I have yet to see someone post that they gained anything at the track on a stock motor with one. People generally use ECU upgrades/tuners to cure issues from big mods like HCI or Forced induction and not really to fine-tune a stock motor.

The only ECU upgrade I recall seeing actual gains from on a stock motor is the A9L conversion using the PIH. Of course this is practically an obsolete unit and very hard to find. This is what I would do if I could find one. :notnice:

I tried to give only the facts from my research and keep my opinions out so that you can draw your own conclusion. I have been itching to upgrade my ECU for 4 years now but I just can't justify anything currently available since I haven't seen any testimonials to prove that there would be any quantifiable gains from doing it.

Mid to low 13's:

4.10 gears
Drag radials
Pro-m maf
timing bumped to 16-18 degrees
Homemade cai
Pro 5.0 shifter
Offroad h-pipe

High 12's add:

shorty headers
extender
65mm tb
egr delete
cat-back exhaust
W/ all of these mods my 94 Cobra went 12.97 w/ a best mph of 106.15

thanks for all the replies.

gm:
how were you driving? (i dont powershift)
the sn's can handle 16-18* timing? isnt pinging an issue?
what exactly is an 'extender'
what size MAF? pro m just got bought out by Granateli so i dont know if i would go that route (heard the Granateli's were less quality)
