I've asked about taking off emblems before, but this one has me stumped...on the bottom of my 66 it has a chrome strip right below the doorline from the front fender to the back fender...I can see absolutley no way of getting this thing off...does anyone know how?
I dont know if its just mine but the one on my 66 has screws all throughout the length of it. Obviousely yours doenst tho but maybe just old fashioned prying it off might work
if you're talking about the rocker panel, it's quite easy i just took mine off last week and i should've done it a long time ago. there are 2 bolts and nuts on each side, 1 in front and 1 in back that you have to get from underneath the car kinda by the wheelwells. just look or feel where the panel ends and theres a bolt sticking through the backside you have to take the nut off. once you get both nuts off the panel will need to be slid off the brackets holding it on. start on one side and you kind of have to pull up on it to clear the top lip, then push down to get it completely off the clip. i believe there are 4 or 5 clips on each side. once you get the actual panel off you will see that the clips holding it on are butt ugly and you'll want to get them off too. unfortunately they are riveted on and into the lower metal of the car. the rivets need to be drilled out, 2 on each clip, and then the clip will come off with minimal prying. there are 'holes' there from where the clips were and it might be a different coor depending on the previous bodywork. most people weld in new metal over the holes and then smooth it over.

RasMG is right about the clip nuts on each end of the molding. These are located inside the fender flares on each end and may be hidden under undercoating and/or dirt. Dig in the corners of the fender flare behind the front and rear edges of the molding (inside the fender openings). When you find these nuts take them off.
Once they're off, then use a wide putty knife (3") and slide it under the molding at the bottom edge. Lift up gently while sliding the putty knife towards each clip...there are five or six clips. When the putty knife is next to a clip, pry upwards to pop the molding off the clip at the bottom edge. Do this all along the bottom not worrying about the top. Once the bottom is free, lift the molding off the car. To replace the molding, set the upper edge on the clips at the top and with the back of your hand, simply pop the molding back on and replace the nuts...this is very easy to do once you've done it the first time...
You don't have to slide the molding down the length of the car scratching the paint as you go...just pop it off, pop it back on.
