How to install a starter?

That's about it! Unhook the battery, unbolt the two bolts that you see, drop it down, unbolt the wire from the starter. game over! I have had trouble getting the starter to line up with the flywheel/bellhousing upon re-install, but not on my 5.0. It's a pretty simple operation, less than 20 minutes. 
My dad borrowed his buddys lifts so we could get under it easier. Well when my dad got under it he said there is no way we can get to the top bolt. He said we dont have the tools. This f-ing sucks. An easy a$$ job I cant do because I do not have the tools. So I have to pay some stupid shop an outrageous amount for a job that takes 20 minutes.
My car has to go into the shop Friday anyway because I have a brake fluid leak. So I am just gonna suck it up and have them do it. My brakes squeel like a mother too so thats one more thing that has to get looked at. This car is pissing me off. Brakes, starter, heater core, brake fluid leak, tires, inspection soon...list doesnt end. I have no money for mods cause I gotta fix the damn thing. 
don't want to sound like a jerk, but here goes:
like i said in my other post, you just need some extensions to get that top bolt. it is not difficult. stuff that is in your repair list is easy stuff that you should be able to do your self. i can understand if you don't have the time, but just cause you get frustrated when a little prob like this arrises is no reason to pay someone else to do it. you need to learn to do this when you do do the mods. you say that you want to spend money on mods, but can't cause of all theses repairs and paying extra for someone else to do it. how will you handle doing mods to your car if run into snags all the time? this is what working on cars and modding them is about.

Time I do not have. I leave for training in a week so I need to get the repairs done soon. If I did have the time of course I would try and tackle them myself. But I need to get prepared for a months worth of training. Therefore I cannot be going to hardware stores and what not trying to get the proper tools. How can I get to the hardware store in the first place? My g/f works and so do all of my buddys. When my dad comes home from work he doesnt want to have to drive me places. I agree that I can do all of the repairs to my car. That is the only way I will ever learn. So I agree with you...I wish I could say built not bought, but I do not have the time or resources.

i dont know about all of you guys but when i changed my starter the bottom joke came out no problem but the top one i had to jack it up and take off the tire and use a univserial joint and ext. to get top bolt. After a lot of cursing and breaks i finally got it out. puttting it back in wasnt bad
ive had to take my starter off and put it back in about 10 times in the past month, i always get at the top bolt by moving some vaccuum hoses out of the way and reach my arm wayyyy down there with the ratchet and dont even use an extension.... i can pull the starter in less that 7 minutes, and i have LT's....so its not like its a major job....if you cant find 1 ride to a store to buy tools from your friends or relatives....hitch-hike to a store..jk...
I changed my starter (88 lx 5.0) in my garage on jackstands in 45 minutes. To reach the top bolt take 2 10" extensions, universal joint and finally a 1/2" socket. Thread the tool over the steering rack on the passenger side and straight onto the top bolt. There is a direct line to it. I'm running equal lenght headers and had lots of room (not sure about LT). Lots of people say the top bolt is difficult but there just not trying hard enough

It's really quite simple, Funhog--you're a quitter! LOL I'm just busting your balls, man. It does get frustrating when your $$$ goes to repairs vs. mods. I understand. Take your car to a shop if you must, but get some tools first chance you get. Ask for them (or money for them) at gift-giving times. You want to do mods in the future, and the tools you're lacking now are really pretty basic essentials. You're gonna need to get them before you mod anyway. Also, see if the place you get your part(s) loans tools. Check out my old posts (I have so many!
). On one of them, I asked for what people considered "must have" tools and got a handful of replies. Check it out. Good luck, fella!

Whoever said get a manual, that's a waste of reply to someone, The internet can be just as good as a manual, it's also the point of having a "tech" section.
Besides rarely do manuals give you the fastest most effeicient method, along with the fact that some manuals suggest you need a special tool for damn near everything, and you really don't.
