Hey guys, I was just curious about this for a number of reasons, mainly because I don't wanna make a fool out of myself when I'm warming up the rubbers at the track. I used to have an auto Dakota 5.2L, so I would just do a brakestand when I wanted to spin them.

Anyways, how do I keep a nice burnout in a manual GT? We've got three pedals now, so that complicates things, lol. If I aggressively launch it (not dropping the clutch, BTW), the tires will spin for a while, but eventually hook to the road. I just want to keep a solid burnout. Do I just get the tires spinning, let off the clutch, and use that foot on the brake, while still manning the gas pedal with my other foot? Thanks for helping me in my noobish situation.

Drop the clutch at about 4000 rpm, then while your tires are spinning, slide your left foot over to operate the brake like you would an automatic.

some do a heal on brake toe on clutch, but imo you need a firewall adjuster for your clutch to active that early. I put my heel on the clutch, and the big toe part of my shoe on the top left corner of the brake. Press that foot down, depressing the brake and the clutch, put your foot into the gas 4500rpms or so (depending on if you have gears or power you could do it from 2k, lol), then lift your heel off the clutch transferring weight onto the brake (but not alot if needed) then swing your heel down to be upright with the brake (unless you heel toe your 1-2 shift for extended burn outs)

You do that in your 4r70w?

Seriously, once you get out to the track you will realize that street cars DON'T do the huge burnouts as its not necessary on street tires. Avoid the water if possible, or if you must go through it, just do a mild spin to get the water off. Doing a massive/smoking burnout isn't going to do you any good and you'll regret it the next day when removing the rubber on the car.

yeah, this isn't the only car i drive/ have driven. I dont think he's talking about for the track - just for kicks.
For me, it's easy with a stall TC - just floor it with some braking here and there and it gets the job done

i just rev it up around 4500ish and dump the clutch and move my left foot to the brake pedal. this is done in 1st gear. i have been thinking about trying it in 2nd but dont want to kill it at the burnout box lol.

this is known as the lurching burnout, not preferable
I saw someone do that at the track and were slow to find the brake and people started running - lol

Heel toe'ing a burnout is a great way to produce smoke but it's usually from your clutch.

On the road, a stock to semi-stock mustang (or many cars for that matter) isn't going to do the best burnout. But the best(and really only way IMO) to do it is to get those RPM's up and when you dump the clutch quickly find the brake and use it to keep you still enough to keep the tires spinning.

At the track you have to remember there is going to be water there, if you practice on the road and go through the burnout box and try the same stunt there you will quickly find your rev limiter, assuming you have one, if not you could imagine what would happen. d98gt had the best answer here, avoid the water and when you get on the other side do a small tire spin to clean your tires and get the little bit of water that gets brought to the start line by other cars off your tires. If you not running slicks and want to get good times at the track i would suggest spending most of your time getting the tires NOT to spin.
But of course if you want to show off(we are all guilty of that) get your garden hose wet the concrete in front of your house dump the clutch and lay on the brake till you cant see or you hear rims hit the pavement.

@ hear rims on the pavement.

I can honestly say I have never done a burnout other than at the track so I couldn't exactly give you advice on it, other than to find a smooth road

you can still dump the clutch just as fast heal toeing it w/out lurching forward since your foot is also on the brake - just slip your foot off the clutch. Why would you burn up the clutch?

i just pop the clutch, move my foot quickly from the clutch to the brake, and let it burn.

Linelock would be the best way. I put part of my right foot on the brake and part on the gas pedal. Then I quickly let out the clutch and put my left foot on the brake and roll my right foot completely onto the gas pedal. No lunging forward or anything.

I just bring it to 2000 rpm, let out clutch, nail go peddal and hang on, nice big clouds of smoke from both tire and a whole lotta rubber left on the ground It will keep spinning them all the way to 85 if I manhandle the shifts

i use the left part of my right foot on the brake and the rest of my right foot on the gas.. i just hold the brake, rev it up and let the clutch out.. i dont roll at all at the beginning...and my left foot is free to shift into 2nd gear if i feel like wasting the rubber

this is all possible with the gas pedal mod! (UT OH! someone brought up the gas pedal mod again!!! LETS KILL HIM!)

In all reality if you have to ask how to do a burnout in a 5-speed GT you should be driving a Honda.
