hi
Folks who knows about the motors? I decided to make a small experiment with the car painting. Finally, I can now devote the time to it. I rented the air compressor. But its motor is intended for 3 phase usage only. I can not understand the way of energy conversion through the VFD. On the one hand, I have a single phase, and on the other hand I’m afraid to burn the air compressor or the motor. Can I risk or not?
PS: I need it to restore my old mustang

You rented a 3-phase air compressor? Take it back and rent a single phase air compressor.

In many cases a 3 Phase can be coverted to run on single phase, but since it's a rental, go swap it out :facepalm

Well, possibly you are right. It silly to buy a VFD for a rented equipment. Besides the quality one costs more than $300. They now offer me this motor .5018OS1AEC56 WEG - MROSupply.com Can I power it to a single phase?

They make new pistons every day, so why worry?

Having/using a VFD has nothing to do with wiring a motor single phase or 3 phase. They make converters to go one way or the other but they are expensive. Why exactly would you buy a motor for rented equipment?

Why not go down to your favorite harbor tool store and pick up a compressor designed to work in single phase?

If you BOUGHT a VFD, you already have more money into this thing than you should. Hell.... Have you ever heard of Sears? Home Depot? Lowes? Go there and buy a compressor. It'll probably even come with tools!
