Well installed new oil pump/pan while doing my engine build up and they said u need to prime the pump, otherwise when starting the car first coming times everything will grind together and prob wont have no oil pressure. I was told u gotta use some special tool to connect to the oil shaft through the distribtor hole and spin the pump or something??? Anyone know anything about this please chime in.

Just pour some oil in the pump on the bench and turn it with the rod that goes in there....make sure you install that rod before you install the pump in the motor..it cant go in otherwise....it has that clip that keeps it from falling.

once its installed you can prime the system by turning the rod CCW with a drill or ratchet...i think a 1/4" socket, on a 6" extension, will fit the hex for turning it....you can see the oil pump up thru the lifters or turn the key on and watch your gage for pressure...make sure you have a good fit on the socket/extension, dont want it falling off in there...

oh and also my lower intake is on so i cant see no lifters.....and when u say turn the key for oil pressure.....my engine isnt in the car so does that mean i cant prime it till everything is hooked up besides the Distributor?

Your all set....just prime it as i mentioned after you fill it up with oil....are the VCs off??? oil will come up thru the pushrods, your all set when you see that...long as its not started without being primed your all set...

I primed my pump on the bench BEFORE i installed it....you missed that step...no biggie....my motor was on a stand also...

you can do it on the stand as well...if the rockers/pushrods arent on yet, just wait til they are...i primed mine on the engine stand as i set-up the valvetrain that way...i reprimed it in the car before i slapped the dizzy in too...just prime the motor til you see pressure on your gage...then let er rip... :D

yea i never primed it on the bench, The rocker and everything is installed already so just pour oil through the head and turn the shaft CCW?

Yup...you'll see the oil come right up thru the rcokers....dont go crazy or it'll run over the sides if the VCs arent on...i had to set some rags there..

Geez...i dont know??? maybe you wanna dump some in the dizzy hole....get some in that pump first...think i'd do that, put like few qts in the pan, and use a qt to pour a little in the dizzy hole, throw the shaft in, turn it CCW..you should be able to tell when the pumps start to get oil, you'll get resistance...then keep turning til the oils coming thru all the rockers...
