Yes, I sanded and repainted mine years ago and it still looks good. There are many threads about how to go about doing it on the forums.
General steps are....
Clean
Mask the area off
Sand, multiple steps with different grit paper.
Prime, 2 or more coats to fill in the pits
Sand between coats of primer
Then top coat, Trim black found at any auto parts store, maybe 2 or more to your liking.
Sand between coats.
Remove masking
Enjoy the new look.

LOL, since when is saving money a bad thing? Your 3rd brake light didn't come stock with "rice eater" on it either, but yet there it is . I for one can't see spending over 100 bills extra just to have "mustang" on my nice new quarter windows for the benefit of the .00001 percent of the population who can't recognize a fox mustang from a mile away.

P.S. It should be "they're cheap" instead of there cheap.

they dont make the ones that say "mustang" anymore...the repo quarter windows cant say "mustang" cause its a trade mark of ford and all that....neither the 400 or 300 dollar ones say "mustang", they look to be the same...

even if you managed to find a ford dealer that had some laying around they sold for like 800 a piece and that was BEFORE they stoped making them

Save your money and just refurbish what you have. Here's a copy and paste from a thread when this came up before and what I do to make them look as good as new. And here's a link to that thread. http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=480349

"Your best option is to use Fiberglass/Evercoat Poly-Flex. It's a flexible polyester glazing putty designed for spot filling and skim coating over repair areas on flexible bumpers and plastic parts. Mask off the area around the window and the glass itself, apply the putty, when dry sand down smooth and repaint. It will look brand new and nobody will know the difference."

Is that a brand name, what I should be looking for in the store?

Evercoat is the brand name, and it should be available at any auto paint supplier. Here's a link to and online source. http://www.ketone.com/proddetail.php?prod=FE411
