How to stop valve chatter?

I thought i could tackle this one myself but i came up short. when i first got the car on the road the valves would chatter real bad when you got on the car. i bought some lucas fuel system treatment, and it helped out alot. The car pulls hard in 1st and 2nd but as soon as i go to third the valves start to chatter again. What can i do to fix this? When i got the car, the previous owner replaced the motor with a 91 5.0, so i dont know how long it had been sitting. Thanks in advance for any and all info.

i was hoping for that to be the last option. if i have to do that ill just buy some better heads. Been waiting on a reason to do a h/c/i swap.

Oh,well thats nothing compared to what I was gonna say with you need the guides bushed,new seals,new springs and a valve job for it to be really right....

Are you sure its mis adjusted valves? If you put a fuel system treatment in and it helped, could it be detonation? Maybe your timing is too far advanced, the gas is bad or had a little water in it. Dunno, just thinking out loud.

It was the lucas fuel treatment, my mistake. Im going sometime to day and get the timing checked.

What is base timing set at? How many miles are on the timing chain?

I couldnt make it to my dads yesterday so i dont know the timing. As far as the timing chain, i was told the motor came out of a 91 mustang with 80k on the odometer

If the timing chain has not ever been replaced than that is your culprit. You can get by with backing your timing down until it quits pinging but it will cost you potiential power output. But if you let it continue to 'ping' it will cause damage

retard the timing--put in octane boost, or both.
