how to take shift knob off?

Hello,
I have 65 4 speed manual mustang and i wanna replace the shifter knob but i can't seem to figure out how to take it off.
How can i change with new one?

Look around the back of the ball and you will find a chrome piece that is actually a 2 sided nut. The knob fits into it. The chrome piece should have a place to fit a wrench. Turn the chrome piece clockwise as you are looking at it. Once it is loose, you should be able to unscrew the black knob by turning it counter-clockwise.

There are 2 small hole on crome piece. What's for? Are there any screw in that holes?
