I know I can count the number of teeth on a set of gear to tell what ratio they are. But I haven't had any luck finding that, so please point me to a URL or chart that will let me convert teeth into a final drive ratio.

There is no need for a chart, just divide the number of gears on the ring gear by the number of gears on the pinion.

Hmmm.. well, duh, that seems easy enough.

Supposedly the old gears were 2.73s and the new ones were 3.27s, but the new ones don't seem to drive any different than the old ones. Admittedly, I haven't gotten the speedo gear installed yet, but I can usually tell my road speed pretty well even without the speedo working right.

Anyway, thanks!

if they are already in just jack up the back and mark the driveshaft and mark the tire, see how many times the driveshaft spins for the tires to spin once, if it spins 2 3/4 they are 2.73's, if they spin 3 1/4 then they are 3.27's etc.. etc..

When I went from 2.73's to 3.27s I noticed a huge difference......if you can't feel any difference they're probably 2.73's or 3.08's

Well, I'm almost positive that the gears that came out were 2.73s. I used the corral.net Gear Calculator and based on my RPM and speed numbers, it appeared that I had the 2.73s.

The gears I bought as a replacement were used and I didn't check them 'cause I didn't realize it was as easy as just counting the teeth and dividing the numbers. (Duh.) I asked the shop that put them in to check them and make sure they were 3.27s before they installed them, and they confirmed that they were indeed 3.27s.

The car just feels like I'm still having to downshift just as much as I did with the 2.73s. I was out driving some twisties yesterday, and there were parts where I should have been okay in 3rd gear, but I found myself having to downshift to 2nd.

I'll go have a look at the car this afternoon to figure out for sure--I'll try the driveshaft/tire spinning idea to make sure I've got 3.27s in there now, and count the teeth on the old gears to make sure they were 2.73s. Hopefully my 3.27 speedo gear will show up soon, too.
