How to tell world class t5 from 4 banger

I have found a good deal on CL on a T5 guy says it's from 88GT how can I tell what it really is?

numbers from the id tag. should be a 2-3 inch strip of metal. there is a decoder you can get online.

Both the V8 and 4-banger T-5 are world class. It just refers to a different bearing style and 3-peice blocker rings for 1-4 gear.

The gear ratios are different. Easiest way to tell is to measure the input shaft tip

Correct, the end of the input shaft is smaller diameter on the 4cyc t5.

slightly longer and a little narrower i believe. The tag if its there can be run on the interwebs and theres a site that will tell you exactly wha you have ...found it once cant remember where now.

If you want to be certain of the model year of the trans, there is a partial VIN stamped on passenger-side of the main case. The first character of that partial VIN will tell you the model year.

Only if it hasn't been changed. I bought one that had been but it was still a 4 cyl one according to the id tag......
