How to use a steering wheel puller

I feel like a complete idiot asking this question but i cant seem to get it.

THis is the one i bought from my local auto part store

I'm not sure how far to screw the bolts in, and i also dont know how to get the steering wheel off.

You thread two bolts into the steering wheel (through the ends of the fork), and use the single large bolt (through the middle of the fork) against the steering column to force the wheel off.

The puller i bought looks totally different then yours and also how far do you thread in?
