how to wire factory foglights so car wont burn?

i just bought some yellow foglights for my 90 vert and would like to figure out how to wire the foglight switch so that i can turn the foglights on with just the parking lights so it will look mean.right now the headlights have to be on for the foglights to be on.also when i hit my brights the foglights cut off.did they do this for charging reasons?

My 2001 Explorer does the same with the foglights turning off with highbeams but I can leave foglights and parking lamps on solely. You have to rewire the power lead for the foglights to a different +12V sourse in the car that isn't only activated by the headlights.

While you can simply change the power source to the fog light switch, I'd highly recommend following A.S.'s link and installing a relay on the fog lights as well.

I chose to run relays on lows, highs, and fogs to further reduce stress on the switchgear and maximize wattage output at the lights.
