I have searched every 4-5 lug post there is and can't find one that deals with how much HP and torque you can put through 4 lug axles before things start to break. I don't want to spend money on cool wheels right now, I want to put it into other parts. Answers for both 28 and 31 splined axles would be appreciated as well.

I dunno how much they will take but im wayy over anything you can make with a stock block and i dont have any problems, i have 31 spline axels + a spool.
i dont think ford switched b/c power limits, i think it was b/c the mustang was the only car with 4 lug spindles.? some one should know the reason they went to 5 lug.

I've personally seen cars going mid-low 10's in the 1/4 on 4 lugs, and pulling high 1.3's low 1.4 60 foot times.
I don't think you need concern yourself about a 5 lug swap from a strength standpoint.

thanks!

strokedandblown and cleanlx, a big thank you for your replies. I am going to proceed with my upgrades then and run the four lugs, I will upgrade the axles and go with the cobra trac loc 31 spline in preparation for the next round of upgrades. This building to a plan and then trying to stick with it sucks! Anyway, 3.73's are right around the corner, 4 lugs and all. Thanks again.
