HP gain from Electric fan install?

Good afternoon..I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some information as too the HP increase available from going to an electric fan set up over my current stock fan. Also I would like to know if anyone has information as to how I could retain my stock fan shroud with an electric fan install..I have done some custom work with it and would hate to have to give it up..though if the advantages were there I'd consider it.

I was just going to post the same question.
My cars a/c gets warm when I stop at a traffic light. I noticed the very tips of the stock fan are worn.
Is this not pulling air across the condensor and thats why its getting warm?

What fan is a direct fit and pulls the most air?

A lot of guys say it doesn't give you anything, but looking at my timeslips you can see my times are consistantly 0.1/1 mph faster after my Black Magic install.

Can't offer you dyno #'s, but my fan gave me 0 SOTP increase, but the car revs much quicker, so that must be worth something .. I would guess well under 10hp and mostly up top. The dyno graphs I've seen have been in the same ballpark. Also, depending on the fan you go with, you may be able to reuse your stock shroud. I have a proform, it keeps the car to whatever I set it at sitting in traffic, and isn't even on while moving. It came with the shroud and the bracket for the stock overflow tank.

I did my E-fan with underdrive pulleys at the same time. Between the two of them I'd say it freed up between 5-7hp.

Proform and Black magic are direct bolt ins... also the ford taurus fan is easy to put in, and cheap.

When I did my fan, I could tell a difference in the top end a little.... it also revs quicker. But with my underdrives I can't keep up on the electricity.

Get a new fan clutch. You'll notice it will get cooler. Also clean you condenser with a fin brush. It will clean out old rocks and bugs and give you better air flow.

Just buy a bigger alternator if you have problems. A 130 or 140 will do just right with an electric fan.....

Heh, couldn't tell you.. no hvac equipment or radio. Only powering the fan and the bottle heater, I have zero charging issues with stock altenator and underdrive pulleys. I sat in traffic for about a half hour today, stopped most of the time. The fan is set to kick in at 190* (180* thermo), and the coolant temp never went over 195*.

Strange, I had Mac pulleys, A/C, power everything, E-Fan, Trunk Mounted Battery and a big booming stereo system in mine and it never let me down. Yeah, the stock gauge used to dip below 12V at idle almost all the time, but never once did it leave me with a dead battery.

Really? For making HP i might agree with ya, but it's hard to not agree that it takes stress away from the pully system, and more importantly the crank since there's no more clutch fan and all of it's weight to be spun. The engine revs quicker and more freely. Clutch fans are old technology, otherwise they'd still be in use today.

They are. My '01 Explorer uses a clutch fan and so does my brothers '03.

Huh...well poop on me. I don't like'em, how's that? LOL

I just don't see why they're NOT out of use then, since they do add stress. I guess you could argue that the electric fans add stress to the electrical system, but you can beef that up and make up for it. I look at it like anything i can remove from the pully system is going to free up stress from the crank, which in turn lets the engine do what it does easier, plus it looks cleaner under the hood with an electric fan.

The main reason they're still in use it for one they're much cheaper to mass-produce and install than an electric fan and secondly they're more reliable in the event of failure. When an E-fan quits, it just quits, but when a clutch fan goes south, the clutch ceases up, but it still cools the engine. Typical Ford….……taking cost and longevity into account over the ability to squeeze out a couple of extra horsepower.

If it makes you feel any better, my Cougar has a factory electric fan.

I had a Bronco II whose fan clutch went out...It didn't sieze though. It went out and left the fan permanently freewheeling. The little brown "toaster" sat there, got hot and cracked its own heads.

I tried using the stock shroud with the taurus fan by triming to fit inside of it. It didnt work, the car would run hot on the highway. Just use the taurus fan and drill a couple of holes in its shroud to mount the water bottle in roughly the same position.

forgot to add it felt like I added power all around because the car revved up easier. It is most noticeable just off idle, important since my car is aod.

If you really want to re use the stock shrould, look through 5.0 and MM&FF.
There's a page (pink i think) that sells a fan that you mount inside the shroud.

Electric fans don't give much performance gains, on some cars none at all.
But they will help with the a/c at a stoplight.
I suggest the lincoln or sn95 fan.
