HP gain from Electric fan install?

Just feel the weight of the clutch fan assembly, your taking a good amout of rotating weight off the car. Given that being a clutch fan, it isn't all spinning that fast but still, it is there. I noticed a difference going from a worn out (so not as much resistance) clutchfan to a BM electric.

I think it would show up more on a car with gears because they are revving up and down faster.

For a daily driver, it might be better to get a heavy duty clutchfan and the metal fan assembly.

I installed and then removed an electric fan, didn't notice any differences.

I did not read all this (Derek, you have been on a roll lately with the long threads. ) but since it does not appear that everyone is bashing mechanical fans (as usual).......

I have a metal replacement blade and HD clutch and am very pleased with it. I seldom tach over 3K, so higher rpms (where mech fans can be more parasitic) is not an issue really. it cools very well at idle (110* today) - it works much better than the SN95 fan in the 94 GT (note that has a one row radiator).

just my random thoughts......

Th electric fan draws about 1/2-3/4 HP (360-600 watts) of electric power. Use one of the DC Control fan controllers and it is probably less than that. Compare that to the 5-7 HP draw with the stock fan.

If you really want to re use the stock shrould, look through 5.0 and MM&FF.
There's a page (pink i think) that sells a fan that you mount inside the shroud.

Electric fans don't give much performance gains, on some cars none at all.
But they will help with the a/c at a stoplight.
I suggest the lincoln or sn95 fan.

My stock plastic fan was cracked, so I decided to go with a metal replacement from PAW (under 40 bucks shipped). Being it that temps are so hot here, I wanted a lifetime warranty fan clutch, so i just got one from Autozone (HD model - a little pricey but LLT and less than an SSP clutch). Fan clutches lose a few hundred RPM's a year, so that seemed wise to me.

I will note that it is a tight set up which flows a lot of air. Some would not like it because the clutch is nice and tight, but with temps here, I LOVE it. it is 109* today and i ran errands and never went over 200* (180 Mr Gasket stat). This is with a stock radiator too. The metal blade might be a bit more parasitic than plastic (weight and amount of air it moves), but like i said, that is just what I want.

It sounds like your set up is doing fine for now anyhow - I would be happy with the temps you run. My old clutch was loose and leaking silicone out the front. not good.

BTW, I stopped really reading the CAI thread after a few pages. I did see a folk or two post some things about you which i VERY much disagreed with, but you took care of business and replied with class to those remarks so I chose not to argue with those folks.

Wait, we are both waiting for someone to provide us with those neat snail shaped CAI's so we can do testing and provide feedback.

what do you have to back this?

my car runs cooler, revs quick since going from a flexfan. not to mention it cleans up the engine bay.

My car dropped a little et with an electric fan. I had a big ass one from a Contour I think. Cooled very well.If anything, it's worth a try if you can get a cheap fan like I did.

my jeep has a factory 2-speed efan, and i definately noticed a difference in my old 5.2 when i took the clutch fan out adn put a turus fan in its place.
