between about 15-25% load, i can hear a sort of a humming noise from the engine compartment. i thought it was the power steering pump, but i just replaced it and the noise is still there.

could it be this pulley? is this the idler pulley? is mine bad?

hmm, how do you know your load #'s?? Could it be timing chain? Could you record the sound and post it up?

Its could be your trans? I dunno. It sounded like a whinning noise in the engine compartment just before my trans went. Now with the new one the whine is gone. And the whine only came along under load.

Hope this helps. This was my experience with the noise you describe.

it also happens in neutral while idling, if i feather the gas. i don't know if that rules out the tranny or not.

does that pulley in the picture look ok?

Take off the belt and start engine.
If noise is gone then its one of the pullies.
