Hurst Chrome handle on MGW Shifter

Does Hurst even sell the handle separate from the shifter?

Anything is possible with fabrication. But it's not a bolt-in piece, that's for sure. The Hurst handle attaches completely differently.

and yes, fabrication is needed, as usual in a custom installation.

Sorry, I'm burnt out from work. And yes, I shouldn't have admitted to it. But I know more about photography than I do car parts. That's the first time I'd ever seen a shifter out of a car.

Not only dose summit sell the hurst handles, they can be had in different heights. I'm still thinking about going with a taller handle on my hurst shifter. If you want a hurst handle, just buy the hurst shifter. I think the hurst shifter is an awesome piece, notchy crisp shifts, short throw. It makes my stang feel more like a race car. I love the hurst shifter. I know it gets a bad rap by some, but after having the hurst my self, it's a great shifter and it's a hurst.

Yea, I wanted the "hurst look" above the shifter boot, and hide a MGW below.

I already have a Hurst; it is a nice shifter and I have enjoyed it but I'm looking for something a bit different this time around. I really like the appearance and what it add's to the retro interior. Just looking for something a bit smoother/easier to shift (especially problematic on cold mornings for me). Still haven't made up my mind yet though, I may stick with it.

And thanks for the summit link, I was worried about trying to sell a used Hurst shifter w/o a stick and ball, wether it would be worthless or not, but good to know.


So it looks like I would have to have one side of the aluminum block milled (to recess the chrome handle) or possibly mount it centered like MGWs handle, could probably make an adapter for that. Thanks for the pic. I will update post if I find a viable method to go that route.

If you really want to change the the MGW and want to keep a retro look, MGW just came out with a new retro ball. It's 2" instead of 1.75" though. I think it's a call to order piece right now. The handle is available frosted or polished and the ball is available in black or white.

MGW shifter with Hurst Ball

You can buy just the hurst ball by itself, and when you order the MGW you have to specify which threads for the shaft, get the SAE ones instead of metric and your Hurst ball should fit on there.

I'm wanting to do the same thing with mine, but I kinda want the Hurst shaft too. I know that's totally stupid to have an MGW shifter and want the "look" of the Hurst, but hey, I love the retro-vibe!!!
